1. Impact of Internet on society and culture:
I think internet has created a good impact on society and culture. The Social Impact of the Internet on Our Society is that it allowed new ways for citizens to communicate, congregate, and share information of a social nature. Internet has changed our Lifestyle. The Internet has changed the way we study, do research, shopping, banking etc. The impact which internet has created on culture is that it created a medium where anyone from any part of the world can connect and share their knowledge, opinions etc. According to Keen he mentioned that people are stealing away culture from internet and I think in a way it is right and wrong. If people are making information available on internet, having appropriate copy rights and they want the share that information, then I don’t see any point of stealing culture. Internet has created a social networking culture where people from all over the world are actively participating, sharing their thoughts, making new friends etc. Some of the negative impacts of internet on culture are: Internet is encouraging western life-styles. These websites display various aspects of western society and life, and the overwhelming majority of them have positive portrayals of the western life-style. The Internet helps dominant cultures impact and homogenize cultures in an inferior position. Because the Internet overwhelmingly is a culture of the English language, it further strengthens throughout the globe the culture based upon the English language. In comparison, cultures based upon the Chinese, the French and other languages have been weakened. Because of the introduction of the Internet, some under-developed countries have made themselves vulnerable to foreign dominant cultures, busy defending themselves.
2. Experience with user-generated content:
I had a great experience with user generated content. I typed Animation in ww.youtube.com and I am directed to so many videos and I watched one of the video in that list. And I can see the total number of views for that video, also the user comments and also the rating for that video. When I first visited this link (http://www.youtube.com/user/Midnight0000) I can see some links on the top like Home, Channels Videos and shows. When I click on one of them I am directed to the desired page and the content is properly aligned in those pages.
